a modern-thinking young woman of the middle ages, strives to find meaning in her life as she balances her responsibilities with her ambitions. She and her father, Abner, struggle to run an inn on their own (her mother having died many years prior) while dealing with the demands of Lady Lobelia, the Lady of the manor, who has her own plans for their inn. In the midst of this, a stranger enters her life, whose presence upends her delicate balance, and forces her to confront her conflicting desires.
